5 Sustainable Ways to Embrace A Plastic-Free Lifestyle

Posted by Vanessa Marshall on

This month is Plastic Free July – which means that people ALL over the world are going to gain awareness about plastic pollution and sustainability. Which, at Jack59, is perfect for us. After all, those are just a few of the things that inspired our brand.

Haven’t heard about Plastic Free July yet? Let us help!  It’s a global mission that initially began in Australia. In a brilliant effort to spread awareness and eliminate plastic pollution around the world, the initiative took flight and was quickly picked up world-wide.

Unfortunately, plastic is one of the largest contributors of global pollution. According to National Geographic, a whopping 22 BILLION pounds of plastic enters the ocean every year (seriously – you read that right).

The good news? It’s never too late to band together and make a change and staying accountable for the products we use is one way to begin.

There are 5 easy ways that we recommend limiting your plastic waste.

1. Plastic Wrap

The theory of plastic wrap was a great invention back in the day. Until over 2000 square feet of it ended up in landfills per person. Even though plastic wrap provides convenience, it’s highly disposable and too flimsy to be a multiple-use product.

Thankfully, brands like Goldilocks Wax Wraps have reinvented food wraps to be reusable, eco-friendly and plastic-free. Not to mention, the patterns look beautiful in your fridge and provide a better barrier from the air to your food.

 2. Reusable Water Bottles

Alright – not only are plastic water bottles really expensive and taste like you’re drinking from a sauna on a hot day, but 8 MILLION of them end up in the ocean per year. Our poor turtles.

Thankfully, hip, insulated water bottle brands like Corkcicle produce reusable, stylish water bottles that feature an added bonus of keeping your water cool for several hours.

Stay hydrated and change the world. It’s a win win.

3. Toothpaste

Fresh breath is a necessity, but plastic pollution is not. Over 900 million toothpaste tubes pollute landfills and oceans, and they take centuries to break down. Luckily, forward-thinking brands like Change Toothpaste have developed tiny little toothpaste tabs that are completely plastic-free (and won’t make a mess of your bathroom sink) – finally.

4. Soap

Soap doesn’t have to be boring or bad for the environment! Soap So Co., is a local, sustainable brand that turns bar soap into a décor piece for your bathroom – all while remaining vegan, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free.

These high-quality soaps will offer that squeaky-clean feeling with beautiful, artistic designs that look just as good as they smell.

5. Shampoo and conditioner

At Jack59, we were inspired to create eco-friendly, plastic-free hair care that still provided that salon-quality feeling. Well, because we believe that you can have it all when it comes to your hair. More than 552 million shampoo bottles wind up in landfills each year, so we tackled the challenge of minimizing that with our innovative shampoo and conditioner bars.

But Jack59 isn’t just any shampoo bar. Our ingredients have a unique ingredient deck that balances and nourishes the pH of your hair, so you get that silky-smooth, never-looked-better hair that you’ve always dreamt of.

Dead ends? Dryness? Damage? Oily roots? It’s no match for Jack59. Choose the unique formula that best suits your needs. Regardless of the one you choose, you can feel good about committing to plastic-free haircare. Just one of our shampoo bars eliminates up to three plastic bottles, and our conditioner bottles eliminate up to five.

Haircare has never felt so sustainable.
